Dear First Graders and Parents,
It isn't officially spring for another few weeks, but it seems like it's here already. Even though we really needed the rain and the water in our reservoirs, it's nice to have the warmer, sunny weather for a change. The children (and the teachers) are happier when they are able to get outside each day.
We are studying the coral reef this month and learning about this fragile ecosystem. If you have ever visited a coral reef and have pictures of your visit, your child may bring them in to share. We are doing an art project and a diorama of the coral reef.
Next month after Spring Break, we will be studying the rain forest. Please note our Rain Forest Program will be on Friday, April 28 at 7:00 pm. The program will be about 30 minutes long, and we will entertain you with poems, songs, a play, and many facts about the rain forest. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend. Since it's only our class, there is plenty of room to invite family members to come as well.
We have two field trips coming up soon. We will go to another play at the Sunnyvale Theatre Center on March 28. Then on April 13 we will spend most of the day at Vasona Park with a visit to the YSI. This is a great trip which includes a hike and lunch in the park in addition to the program at YSI.
Remember to make sure that you label all your child's clothing, especially now that the weather is changing and the children are bringing jackets to school. You would be surprised how many things look alike and how many children don't remember what belongs to them. Many things are left behind or lost and names will help us get items where they belong. Items left outside at lunch or recess are sent to the cafeteria "Lost and Found" area. These items are kept for a few months and then donated to charity when the pile becomes too big.
If you would like to purchase something for our class, we can always use hand wipes (baby wipes).
